An important event in the world of wrestling — the ranking tournament in freestyle wrestling "Polyak Imre & Varga Janos – 2024," taking place in Budapest, was marked by an unexpected turn of events. Two Armenian wrestlers, Vazgen Tevanyan and Arman Andreasyan, reached the final in the 70 kg weight category. However, the final bout between them will not take place.
Vazgen Tevanyan, known for his performances in the 65 kg weight category, decided not to enter the final match against his teammate Arman Andreasyan. Thus, the current European champion Arman Andreasyan automatically became the winner of the "Polyak Imre & Varga Janos – 2024" tournament, while Vazgen Tevanyan received the silver medal.
It is also worth noting that in the final of the 61 kg weight category, an Armenian wrestler Arsen Harutyunyan will face Kyrgyz athlete Taiyrbek Jumashbek. This promises to be an exciting and intense match, which will be the culmination of the tournament.
The "Polyak Imre & Varga Janos – 2024" tournament gathered the best wrestlers from around the world and became an important stage in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Games. The Armenian national team was represented here by only three wrestlers - Harutyunyan, Andreasyan, and Tevanyan.
